WhatsApp is currently in the testing phase of a new feature that allows users to hide “Locked Chats” completely by implementing a password. Consequently, these conversations will not be visible on the main menu of the application, as reported by “SamMobile.”
This fresh addition can be found in the settings of WhatsApp, accessible through the latest experimental version of the application on Android devices. However, users will only be able to access these concealed chats after entering the specific password assigned to the secured conversation.
In addition to the concealment of locked chats, the new feature introduces an additional layer of security. Users now have the option to set a distinct “Secret Code” alongside the existing PIN code.
The testing phase for this innovative feature was initiated in the trial version of WhatsApp for the “2.23.24.20” operating system on Android smartphones.
Earlier this year, WhatsApp introduced a biometric security feature that enables users to secure their personal chats on smartphones using either facial recognition or fingerprint scanning.
For users interested in utilizing this feature, the steps differ between iOS and Android devices.
Android users are required to long-press on the chat they wish to secure, tap on the three dots in the upper-right corner of the screen, choose “Lock Chat,” and use their fingerprint to finalize the security process.
Meanwhile, iOS users should open the chat they want to secure, tap on the person’s name at the top of the chat, leading to a screen with chat settings. From there, users select “Lock Chat” and then toggle the switch to enable Face ID for chat security.
After completing these steps, “Locked Chats” will appear at the top of the user’s chat list on the application’s home screen. Pressing it will prompt the user to use their face or fingerprint to access the secured chats.
