WhatsApp is currently introducing a new update for iOS users that allows individuals to share photos and videos on the platform without any compression, preserving their original quality.
While WhatsApp typically compresses multimedia, even with the addition of higher quality in its compression algorithm in the August update, the recent one ensures that media files are not compressed at all. Instead, the new update treats media as data files, akin to other documents. When sending a non-compressed image or video, users need to click on the “+” icon to transfer this type of media like other files.
WhatsApp indicates that the rollout of this new feature will be gradual, taking a few weeks to reach all users worldwide.
Regarding the Android system, the company is reportedly working on a similar update, as reported by MacRumors, although there is no specific information about the release date.
Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, has been implementing various features into the app throughout the year, experimenting with a range of functionalities. In August, the platform introduced a feature tailored for macOS, enabling video calls for up to 8 people. Additionally, WhatsApp has tested AI-generated stickers and self-destructing voice messages.
