Enabling the association of a WhatsApp account with an email now provides users with the option to receive a 6-digit verification code via email when logging into their accounts, particularly if the code isn’t received through a Short Message Service (SMS).
This latest feature is currently accessible to users through the recent update of the application on iPhones, version 23.24.70, and is slated for release to Android users in the upcoming days.
The process of linking a WhatsApp account to an email allows for the reception of the 6-digit verification code via email during login, serving as a backup for situations where the code isn’t received through SMS.
This method offers an alternative login route for users facing temporary difficulties in obtaining the verification code via SMS. However, it’s important to note that users still need to utilize a phone number for account creation, and logging in with a phone number remains a viable option.
It’s crucial to emphasize that email addresses don’t replace phone numbers but act as an additional means for users to access their accounts created with phone numbers.
WhatsApp is gradually introducing this new feature, and users simply need to update their application to the latest version available on the app store to gain access.
Users can link their accounts to their email by navigating to the settings in the application, selecting the account, opting for “Add Your Email,” inputting the email, and clicking “Next.” The application will then dispatch a code to the email to finalize the linking process, with the assurance that the email won’t be visible to any other WhatsApp account.
