U-tec Introduces Ultraloq Bolt Fingerprint Smart Lock for Enhanced Security in Smart Homes

U-tec, the manufacturer of smart locks, has announced the release of the first smart lock equipped with a fingerprint reader to support the “Matter-over-Thread” technology, according to a report by The Verge.

The fingerprint reader is considered the fastest and easiest way to unlock a smart lock. The use of Matter-over-Thread technology addresses two major issues with smart locks: battery life and connectivity.

Many connected locks on the market today either have a one-year battery life but suffer from limited range and smart home compatibility with Bluetooth, or they have only a few months of battery life but operate through Wi-Fi for all smart home connections.

Matter-over-Thread technology provides a low-power network design that helps battery-operated devices last longer. The new smart home standard, called “Matter,” facilitates secure and efficient communication across various smart home platforms.

The new Ultraloq Bolt Fingerprint Matter smart lock from U-tec ($299) aims to bridge the gap between battery life and connection strength. The Matter standard is compatible with Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, and others.

U-tec will launch the new lock at the 2024 CES technology expo in Las Vegas next week, showcasing its expansion in smart home product development. They will also introduce the U Home mobile app, a new Wi-Fi-based smart mesh lighting system, and two new security cameras.

In addition to the new locks, U-tec will release the new Bright A19 smart lamp, smart plug, and smart dimmer switch, all part of the new smart mesh lighting system. The Bright A19 lamp is a full-color light with 1100 lumens, needing no hub. The Wi-Fi network system allows multiple lamps to connect to your network without causing Wi-Fi congestion.

All the new locks and lights will work with the new U Home app, which comes with the new U-tec smart plug ($12.99) and smart lockout key ($22.99), set to be launched in February.
