South Korean company Samsung has revealed its new Galaxy S24 series of smartphones, offering features powered by Galaxy AI for a unique user experience in communication and photography. The new phones, Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra, come with a customized version of Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.
The enhanced version is designed with advanced capabilities in the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for quick data processing while optimizing power consumption when delivering AI features, as announced by Samsung at the Unpacked 2024 launch event.
Samsung’s flagship phones this year feature the OneUI 6.1 interface built on the Android operating system, and the company has declared it will extend software support for its phones for a duration of 7 years from their launch, starting with the Galaxy S24 series.
For the first time, the Galaxy S24 Ultra becomes the first Samsung phone to operate on the new WiFi 7 generation of wireless internet connectivity, while the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus operate on WiFi 6E.
The new phones’ screens range in sizes of 6.2 inches, 6.7 inches, and 6.8 inches, all supporting a variable screen refresh rate from 1 Hz to 120 Hz. Additionally, the screens boast brightness levels of up to 2600 nits, ensuring an optimal user experience in outdoor conditions under direct sunlight, relying on the Vision Booster feature for the screens.
Samsung has upgraded the display quality of the S24 Plus to QHD+, the same quality as the S24 Ultra. The Ultra version’s screen is further equipped with an enhanced Corning Gorilla Armor layer, providing a 75% reduction in light reflections, offering a comfortable user experience under sunlight and superior protection against scratches with daily use.
Following in the footsteps of its competitor Apple, Samsung introduced a titanium frame for the Galaxy S24 Ultra this year, making it the first Samsung phone to feature this. The company believes this will enhance the device’s durability and resistance with daily use.
The design of the Ultra model has been slimmed down compared to last year, making it more practical for on-the-go use. As for the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus, their designs for this year are more cohesive by better connecting the phone’s back to its frame.
Samsung has equipped the Galaxy S24 Ultra with a quad rear camera setup, featuring a 200-megapixel main camera with an 85-degree wide-angle, F/1.7 aperture, and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The second camera is a 12-megapixel ultra-wide with an extremely wide 120-degree angle and an F/2.2 aperture. The third camera is a 50-megapixel unit with five levels of optical zoom and OIS, along with an F/3.4 aperture. The fourth camera is a 10-megapixel unit for zooming with three levels of optical zoom and an F/2.4 aperture. The front camera is 12 megapixels with an 80-degree angle and an F/2.2 aperture.
