Origami brings together a group of former Gamekult members who have joined forces to create a dynamic team focused on social media. Through their platform, they offer a diverse range of content including live Twitch shows, podcasts, short videos, and written articles, providing an immersive experience for discussing the latest happenings in the world of video games.
With Origami, five journalists from the gaming press embark on an exciting online adventure. The exodus from Gamekult in December 2022, following its acquisition by Reworld Media, saw the departure of the majority of the extended editorial staff, including both employed journalists and freelancers. They exercised their right to move on and explore new opportunities.
In the spirit of the Science et Vie editorial team who founded Epsiloon after a similar acquisition, several former Gamekult members have launched their own initiatives. Notably, Nicolas “Puyo” Verlet, the former editor-in-chief, Daniel “Kamui” Andreyev, and Grégoire “Goldengreg” Hellot have collaborated on the creation of Summimasen Turbo, an engaging show dedicated to Japanese video game news and pop culture.
Origami emerges as a multi-platform media outlet, driven by the expertise of these former Gamekult members. Instead of a traditional website, they have chosen to leverage the power of popular social media platforms that resonate with the gaming community, making them the primary channels for their communication and content distribution.
At the forefront of this exciting venture are three prominent ex-Gamekult members. Sylvain “Hoopy” Tastet (ZQSD, JV), who spent a few months with Gamekult before departing alongside the rest of the editorial staff, Florian “le Père Fidalbion” Velter (JeuxActu, JV, Canard PC), the former deputy editor-in-chief, and Gauthier “Gautoz” Andres, who previously held the position of deputy editor-in-chief and later transitioned to hosting La Matinale JV on Twitch in 2021.
Joining them are two talented additions to the team. Héloïse “LaLinosse” Linossier, known for her collaborations with JV magazine, and Kevin “Moguri” Cicurel, an experienced professional who has contributed to Joystick, Consoles Plus, and PC Jeux magazines. Kevin has an impressive background, having served as the editor-in-chief of the video games section at the now-defunct Nolife channel in 2018, and currently holding the position of editor-in-chief for Jour de Play on Arte.
Origami represents a collaborative project that brings together the skills and expertise of Hoopy, Gautoz, LaLinosse, le Père Fidalbion, and Moguri. With a target launch in September, the team aims to introduce a weekly show, and they are hopeful that their crowdfunding campaign on Ulule will achieve the desired success, paving the way for an exciting future.
