OpenAI has introduced the voice interaction feature for its ChatGPT smart chat platform on users’ mobile phones, offering this new feature for free to the general public.
Through its Ex account, OpenAI disclosed that the latest feature is now accessible to all users via its smartphone application, eliminating the necessity for users to subscribe to the paid ChatGPT Plus plan to enjoy the voice interaction feature with the chatbot.
Once users download the renowned chatbot app on their smartphones and log into their accounts, they can utilize this feature by tapping on the headphone icon adjacent to the text box in the user interface. Subsequently, users can commence posing questions vocally to ChatGPT directly, bypassing the need for typing.
This new feature facilitates a more human-like, face-to-face interaction with users and accommodates various languages seamlessly within the conversational context without requiring adjustments to user account settings.
In an additional note, the company suggests users can enhance their experience by modifying the language setting for voice interaction with ChatGPT from their account settings before initiating usage.
The chatbot is equipped to support voice interaction across numerous languages, including Arabic, English, Spanish, French, and German.
This launch transpires during a pivotal period for OpenAI, marked by a week of significant developments, commencing with the departure of CEO and founder Sam Altman, followed by the resignation of President Greg Brockman. This tumultuous period included media reports and conjecture surrounding the reasons for Altman’s departure, with some speculating that it pertained to the company’s pursuit of a superintelligent AI model. Subsequent negotiations between Altman, the company’s board, and Microsoft faltered, leading to Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, announcing Altman and Brockman’s recruitment to lead a new research sector within Microsoft. Ultimately, negotiations proved successful, with Altman reinstated at the helm and the formation of a new board of directors.
