The American software and technology giant, Microsoft, has announced its intention to invest billions of dollars in artificial intelligence (AI) technology data centers in Spain, along with significant investment projects planned in Germany, according to the French news agency.
Pedro Sanchez, the Spanish Prime Minister, and Brad Smith, the CEO of Microsoft, announced yesterday evening that the company plans to invest €1.95 billion ($2.1 billion) in Spain over the next two years.
These funds will be used to expand AI projects and cloud computing infrastructure, as stated by Smith on the social media platform, X.
Last week, Smith announced the company’s intention to invest around €3.3 billion in Germany over two years, particularly in enhancing its capabilities in AI applications and cloud computing.
This investment marks the largest for the American company in Germany throughout its 40-year continuous history and includes a training program in AI aiming to reach 1.2 million individuals.
Microsoft has also pledged to invest £2.5 billion ($3.15 billion) in the field of AI in Britain by 2026.
Furthermore, Smith committed in October to invest AU$5 billion ($3.26 billion USD) in the AI sector during his visit to Australia.
