Microsoft Office Now Available on Meta Quest Smart Glasses for Enhanced Productivity

Microsoft has made its suite of desktop applications, Microsoft Office, accessible to users of Meta Quest smart glasses. This allows them to edit and write texts in Word documents, create and view spreadsheet documents in Excel, and run and create interactive presentations in PowerPoint.

As per Meta’s announcement at its developer conference last year, the collaboration between Meta and Microsoft enables users of Quest smart glasses to continue editing work-related documents.

Microsoft Office applications are already available on the Meta Quest Store for smart glasses, and all of them are offered free of charge.

The newly introduced applications are compatible with the first version of Oculus Quest, Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, and Meta Quest 3.

During the Meta Connect 2022 conference last year, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella underscored the close relationship between Microsoft and the smart glasses manufacturer, stating that services such as Teams for team communication and Outlook for email will soon be accessible on Meta Quest glasses.

To utilize Microsoft’s new applications on Meta glasses, users must log in with their Microsoft account.

Users are anticipated to enjoy a seamless and speedy experience when running various Microsoft Office applications on Meta Quest glasses since the files are opened and processed on Microsoft servers, minimizing data processing on the glasses themselves.

However, a report from The Verge pointed out that some users encountered challenges with writing and interacting with the new applications on Meta glasses. This was attributed to certain interface and icon designs not being specifically adapted for virtual reality (VR). Some elements appeared too small and non-interactive, coupled with difficulties in typing on Meta’s virtual keyboard within Microsoft Office applications. Consequently, users may need to use an external Bluetooth keyboard connected to their glasses.

Microsoft recently revealed the availability of a new version of its cloud gaming service, Xbox Game Pass, on Meta Quest smart glasses. This allows gamers to enjoy interactive games within their glasses through a monthly subscription.
