Facebook, now operating under the name “Meta,” has acquired several companies that fall under its umbrella, offering a range of diverse digital services. Some notable platforms acquired by Meta include:
- Instagram: Acquired in 2012 for a billion US dollars.
- Face.com: Also acquired in 2012 for a deal worth 100 million US dollars.
- Oculus VR: Purchased in 2014 for 2.3 billion US dollars, Oculus is known for its virtual reality development concept.
- WhatsApp: Meta, known as Facebook at that time, acquired the chat application in 2014 for a staggering 19 billion US dollars, making it one of the most renowned globally.
- Oculus in AR: In 2014, Meta acquired Oculus in AR for 500 million US dollars.
- Redkix: In 2018, Meta acquired Redkix for 100 million US dollars.
- Beat Games (Beat Saber): Meta expanded its acquisitions beyond chat programs and data analysis by adding virtual reality games to its portfolio in 2019. Beat Games, the developer of the popular game Beat Saber, joined Meta.
- Reliance Jio Platforms: Despite many industries and companies experiencing downturns in 2020, communication companies witnessed unprecedented growth. Meta purchased Geo Platforms, a subsidiary of Reliance, specializing in digital media services, for a substantial 5.7 billion US dollars.
- Giphy: In 2020, after acquiring Geo Platforms, Meta obtained Giphy from the British market. This deal stirred considerable market fluctuations in both the British and American financial markets.
- Customer: Also in 2020, Meta decided to acquire Customer for over a billion US dollars. The deal remained under discussion until 2022 when it was finally closed following an agreement between the regulatory authorities.
In addition to the mentioned platforms, Meta owns two platforms previously known by the names “Facebook” and its messaging app, “Messenger.” The company remained recognized as “Facebook” for a long time until the separation between the parent company “Meta” and Facebook.
