The decentralized web opens the way to a multitude of uses, including:
Decentralized Finance (DeFi): Decentralized financial systems use blockchain technology to facilitate financial transactions without requiring the intervention of intermediaries such as banks.
Decentralized Governance (DAO): Decentralized organizations are managed by a network of members rather than a central board of directors or other authority.
Decentralized Creative Content: Artistic creations such as music, films and books are distributed in a decentralized manner, eliminating the need for intermediaries such as record labels or publishers, creating a fair environment for artists and the audience.
Decentralized Press: Media that are not under the control of corporations or governments and are distributed in a decentralized manner.
Decentralized E-Commerce: Online business operations that take place without the need for intermediaries, such as traditional e-commerce businesses.
Decentralized File Sharing: Systems that allow users to share files with each other without the need for a central server.
Independent Education: Self-learning systems provide students with access to education without the need to enroll in a traditional educational institution, thereby making education more accessible and affordable.
However, the decentralized web faces several challenges, including the early phase of its development, the lack of awareness among many people about its benefits, and the incompatibility of many applications and devices with this technology. Additionally, the data access speed through the decentralized web is slower than that of the centralized web.
The regulatory framework for the decentralized web remains unclear, and security is still a subject of debate. Cyber attacks, data and money theft are potential risks. The decentralized web is also considered less efficient and more energy-intensive than the traditional web.
User experiences of decentralized web applications are often less fluid than those of traditional web applications, requiring deeper technical understanding. Finally, the financing of projects linked to the decentralized Web remains lower than that of traditional Web projects.
