Apple recently rolled out a series of software updates for iPhones running iOS 17.2 and Apple Watch smartwatches running watchOS 10.2. These updates bring a set of new features, some of which are dedicated to video capture on iPhone 15, the Journal service, and solving wireless charging issues in certain vehicles. However, two previously announced features have been pushed back to 2024.
The iOS 17.2 update delivers several improvements, such as customizing the Action Button for instant voice translation, the ability to create rich spatial videos with iPhone 15s for viewing on Apple Vision Pro Glasses, and an improved user experience for zoom when taking photos with iPhone 15 Pro. Additionally, it fixes several vulnerabilities, including fixing the wireless charging issue of the latest iPhone models with certain vehicles.
The new Journal service, unveiled in June, is now available to iPhone users. It helps record experiences and life moments by making this task easier through the collection of photos, videos, geographic locations, music, exercise data, and more. The app also offers built-in data filtering tools to allow users to quickly access the information they want to write and link to their memories.
To keep the user focused, the app offers scheduling notifications to remind the user to write. They can choose the days and times on which these notifications will be sent to their phone.
The application also offers the ability to store and synchronize all of the user’s notes in their iCloud account, allowing access to all journals from all their devices.
A new option has been added to use the Action Button, allowing users to enable instant voice translation of conversations between different languages on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.
iPhone 15 Pro users will enjoy an enhanced shooting experience with the ability to capture rich spatial videos. They will be able to record detailed videos that will completely immerse them when viewed on Apple Vision Pro Glasses, expected next year.
The company has also improved the Zoom experience when capturing videos and photos with the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. The update makes it easier to adjust the focus on a specific element while “zooming”, making it faster than before.
Apple has introduced new features to its iMessages text messaging app with the new update. The company makes it easy to jump directly to the first unread message in any conversation by tapping the arrow that appears at the top right of the conversation interface.
Apple also tried to add a new way for users to express themselves by allowing them to interact with a specific message in a conversation via stickers, by tapping and holding on the message they want to interact with and selecting “Add a sticker”.
With the iOS 17.2 update, users can also change the body appearance of any virtual personality in Memoji.
Furthermore, with the new update, Apple has introduced Contact Key Verification and Contact Verification Codes features, allowing users to receive automatic notifications alerting them if someone is listening in on the conversation, ensuring that the user is not exposed to this danger.
