Google has taken down an app from its Google Play store that notified users about companies supporting Israel, urging a boycott due to the Gaza war, as reported by “Newsweek.”
The app, named “No Thanks,” faced a temporary suspension from the Google Play store due to a line in its description discussing Israel, according to a post by the “No Thanks Boycott” account on the X platform. The account shared a screenshot of the description line, indicating that it was removed in the new update, and the app would undergo a review for re-release on the Play Store.
The description line welcomed users to “No Thanks,” where they could determine if a product supports actions against children in Palestine by scanning the barcode or entering the serial number in the search bar.
The ongoing conflict initiated by Israel against Gaza since the beginning of “Operation Al-Aqsa Storm” on October 7 has sparked global protests. Many have expressed their opposition to Israeli airstrikes targeting Palestinian civilians, particularly children.
The developer of the No Thanks app, a Palestinian, initially introduced the app on the X platform on November 7. The developer encouraged users to download the app, promising assistance in the boycott movement by allowing them to determine if a product supports Israeli actions by scanning its barcode. The app was expected to be released soon on both Android and iOS operating systems.
In a separate post, the app shared a video demonstrating someone using the app to scan a barcode in a store to identify products associated with companies supporting Israel. The post urged people to download the app and join the effort to boycott products linked to the Israeli conflict.
