Google has confirmed that recent slowdowns experienced by users on YouTube are not related to its battle against ad-blocker tools. Users faced a new wave of slowdowns last week, prompting many to turn to Reddit to complain about the issue.
YouTube users were informed that they encountered significant delays on the site when using ad-blocker tools. Some individuals with YouTube Premium subscriptions also experienced slowdowns as they utilized ad-blockers for other purposes.
Google has emphasized that ad-blocker tools are not connected to the ongoing issue, without providing any concrete reasons for the video slowdown. The tech giant denied reports suggesting it intensified efforts to prevent YouTube users from using ad-blockers, which significantly impact the platform’s revenue model.
In a statement, the company clarified, “Our efforts to detect ad-block tooling have no bearing on recent reports of user experiencing delays in loading YouTube.” Google added, “Our help center offers troubleshooting tips for users facing issues.”
Following Google’s suggested troubleshooting steps is important, although it is crucial to note that YouTube’s performance is undoubtedly affected when using ad-blocker tools.
Issues also appear to be linked to the use of the latest versions of AdBlock and AdBlock Plus. According to uBlock Origin developer Raymond Hill, significant performance issues are present for users using both AdBlock and AdBlock Plus simultaneously.
Hill points out that the problem lies with ad-blocker tools, not Google, which introduced new code to slow down YouTube. YouTube has repeatedly stated in the past that ad-blocker tools conflict with its terms of service and also impact content creators’ revenue.
Given YouTube’s stance on this matter, many assumed that recent video slowdowns were associated with the use of ad-blocker tools.
