French Minister of Digital Affairs, Jean Noël Barou, has extended an invitation to Sam Altman, the founder of “OpenAI,” encouraging him and his team to consider relocating to France. This proposal comes shortly after Altman’s recent removal from his position as the head of the company responsible for introducing the industrial AI platform “ChatGPT.”
Barou took to the X platform to express that France welcomes Sam Altman and his team, recognizing their talents and emphasizing ongoing efforts to expedite the deployment of artificial intelligence for the public good.
This invitation aligns with a broader context of notable developments in artificial intelligence within France. The CEOs of Iliad, a telecommunications giant, and CMA CGM, a major shipping company, announced the establishment of a cutting-edge laboratory in Paris named “Kyutai.”
Sam Altman, a well-known figure in Silicon Valley, faced unexpected dismissal from his leadership role at “OpenAI.” The decision followed criticisms from the board, citing concerns about transparency.
Altman shared his reflections on the X platform, stating, “My time at OpenAI has been transformative on a personal level, and I hope, on a global scale.”
The news of Altman’s departure sent ripples through Silicon Valley, where he had been recognized as a leading figure in a sector grappling with formidable challenges, particularly in the realm of artificial intelligence.
During this transitional period, Mira Murati, Chief Technology Officer at “OpenAI” with a five-year tenure, steps into the role of interim president. The company has initiated a search for a new president to guide its future endeavors.
