The Evie Ring stands out as one of the prominent wearables announced at CES 2024, being a smart ring designed specifically for women. Developed by Movano Health, the ring aims to facilitate the tracking of health data, particularly those related to the menstrual cycle and sleep.
This smart ring received the CES 2024 Innovation Award and is suitable for women who wish to monitor health indicators without using a smartwatch and prefer wearing a small device. Although initially unveiled at CES 2023, the Evie Ring was not available for purchase until January of this year. John Mastronardo, the CEO of Movano Health, emphasized last year that the ring is designed to meet the health needs of women at every stage of their lives.
The Evie Ring was showcased again at CES 2024, with the CEO of Movano Health emphasizing the company’s focus on improving the ring’s capabilities in analyzing women’s health data. The Evie Ring utilizes artificial intelligence to detect correlations between the menstrual cycle, mood, energy levels, sleep, and activity after analyzing the data recorded by women in the Evie app, which the ring tracks.
Examples of cases detected by this ring include insufficient sleep during a specific phase of the menstrual cycle. When such a condition is identified, the woman will receive an alert in the Evie app saying, “Your sleep may decrease during this phase of the menstrual cycle due to a decrease in progesterone hormone.”
Furthermore, the ring relies on artificial intelligence to detect mood improvement associated with increased physical activity. For instance, if a woman’s mood improves after walking 1000 steps more than the average, she will receive an alert stating, “We noticed that your mood improves when you walk 1000 steps more than your daily average.”
On another note, women can record menstrual cycle times and moods during the cycle, and the app can predict the next cycle and ovulation time. In the coming months, the company plans to enhance the artificial intelligence features in the ring to detect more data related to the menstrual cycle, mood, and other health indicators.
In addition to tracking the menstrual cycle, the sensors in this ring measure some other vital signs during the day, such as resting heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen levels (SpO2), and respiratory rate. The Evie Ring measures the same indicators during sleep, tracks sleep hours, identifies wake-up times, and differentiates between deep and light sleep.
Similar to smartwatches, the Evie Ring tracks daily steps, distance walked, time spent exercising, and calories burned, providing all this data in the Evie app. The Evie app is currently only available for iPhone users in the App Store, but the manufacturer plans to launch a dedicated version for Android users in the second quarter of 2024.
Through the app, women can set personal goals for sleep, physical activity, or steps. The Spot Check feature available in the app allows easy access to heart rate and blood oxygen levels at any time. The app provides a daily summary that illustrates all the data and indicators collected by the ring on that day.
