The electronic noise-cancelling function has been one of the key strengths of Apple’s AirPods Pro wireless headphones for years, and this feature remains available with the new version of Apple’s headphones. The AirPods Pro effectively block out annoying background noise without causing discomfort or echoing sounds in the ear.
Apple distinguishes between Transparency mode, which allows external noise to pass through, Adaptive mode, which dynamically adapts to external noise, and Active Noise Cancellation mode, which prevents external noise from reaching the ear.
The AirPods Pro wireless headphones are easy to use with Apple’s iPhone, and button programming to adjust the mode can only be done using an iPhone since Apple has not released an app for Android devices. The AirPods connect via Bluetooth technology.
On the other hand, wireless headphones from Google and Samsung do not integrate well with the Apple environment. There is no iOS app available for adjusting sound settings and cancelling ambient noise for either Google Pixel Buds or Samsung Galaxy Buds. However, these headphones work perfectly with Google and Samsung phones and other Android devices.
Huawei demonstrated through its FreeBuds Pro 3 wireless headphones that better functionality is achievable. The Chinese company provides apps for all smartphone operating systems: Apple’s iOS, Google’s Android, and Huawei’s own HarmonyOS. These apps allow users to use wireless headphones and adjust audio settings. The respective apps for iPhones and Huawei phones are available in their app stores.
All Android devices can download the AI Life app from Huawei’s website. However, installing this app is somewhat complex as users must bypass several Android warnings, but it eventually works. This app can make the wireless headphones emit an alert sound to locate them if they are missing. Although this search sound is not as loud as that of AirPods Pro, it works on all platforms.
Huawei’s FreeBuds Pro 3 wireless headphones offer the same sound quality as Apple’s AirPods Pro, and the latest version of Huawei’s headphones matches Apple’s in terms of noise cancellation to a great extent. However, in Transparency mode, Apple’s AirPods Pro outperform Huawei’s headphones because they produce less noise. But when making phone calls, the other party can be heard more clearly when using Huawei’s wireless headphones compared to Apple’s AirPods Pro 2. There are no differences between the two in terms of wearing comfort; Huawei’s headphones are just as comfortable to wear as Apple’s wireless headphones.
