Facing a barrage of online attacks and accusations of antisemitism, Elon Musk, the proprietor of Platform X, appears to be adopting a more conciliatory stance. Despite subtly criticizing Israel and the displacement of Palestinians in Gaza in recent tweets, Musk is slated to make a visit to Tel Aviv in the upcoming week.
During his visit, Musk is set to hold meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog. The Tesla magnate is expected to gain firsthand insights into the “impact on several settlements in the Gaza Strip,” according to reports from Israel’s Channel 12.
Musk encountered significant challenges last week as major corporations, including Disney, Apple, and IBM, temporarily halted their advertising on the X platform due to accusations of antisemitism. The European Commission had also instructed its agencies to temporarily suspend advertising campaigns on the controversial platform owned by the outspoken American billionaire last year (2022).
Responding to what the White House labeled as the “disturbing promotion” of antisemitism by Musk and his platform, Musk vehemently refuted all allegations. He initiated what can be described as a legal battle against “Media Matters,” opting to take the matter to court after the organization allegedly disseminated misleading information about X. This led several companies to pause their advertisements on the platform, citing concerns about antisemitism.
