In the context of the rumors that spread about the X platform, many sources indicated that Musk used the platform with bias towards his personal opinions.
Among the practices that sparked controversy were imposing bans on some entities and lifting bans on others. The platform also lifted bans on many political advertisements, thus making a complete update to the privacy terms previously set by Twitter.
A new feature was added to the X platform, which is the appearance of a blue verification badge (indicating that the account has been verified) next to the name on the platform in exchange for paying $8 monthly. Many criticized this move because it led to cases of impersonation on the platform and encouraged the creation of untrustworthy accounts in exchange for fees.
This is in addition to the feature of boosting the visibility of users’ posts who have paid for the blue verification badge along with a program to share advertising revenues with these users and many financial rewards. In this case, users who post misleading information may receive a lot of interaction and therefore a lot of financial returns, which encourages them to continue doing so.
Musk also used the platform to promote his other companies and to promote some politicians, and he expelled some journalists such as “NBC”, which angered social media audiences.
Despite Elon Musk’s historical successes in the technological world, starting from Tesla, and passing through OpenAI and SpaceX, the image of the X platform today remains unclear, leaving the fate of this platform unknown and dependent on Musk’s abilities to revive it and restore trust to its audience.
