Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, recently took center stage at the company’s Austin, Texas headquarters to unveil the much-anticipated details of the latest Cybertruck model. Addressing the audience under soft lighting, Musk confidently declared, “What we’re unveiling here is more than just a truck; it’s a truck that outshines others and, simultaneously, a sports car that surpasses conventional standards.”
Musk elaborated on the Cybertruck’s robust features, emphasizing its bullet-resistant steel structure, “rock-resistant” windows, impressive towing capacity of over 11,000 pounds, lightning-fast acceleration from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 2.6 seconds, and a sturdy vehicle base measuring 6 feet in length and 4 feet in width. He enthusiastically added that this groundbreaking vehicle is set to “revolutionize the streets,” turning futuristic dreams into a tangible reality.
During the presentation, Musk tactfully avoided specifying the exact price and battery range of the Cybertruck. However, Tesla’s website discreetly indicated that the base model’s price had surged by approximately 50%, landing well above the original $40,000 target, excluding potential tax credits and incentives.
In a candid moment during an earnings review call held in the previous year, Musk acknowledged the substantial challenges in scaling up Cybertruck production and ensuring positive cash flow for the innovative vehicle. He candidly remarked, “We’ve set ourselves quite a challenge with the Cybertruck,” highlighting the unique hurdles associated with manufacturing and introducing this distinctive truck to the market.
As per Tesla’s online platform, the rear-wheel-drive Cybertruck will be available for purchase at around $60,990, while the more advanced Cyberbeast variant is priced at $99,990. Both models are slated for delivery in the coming year. Additionally, Tesla has future plans to introduce a four-wheel-drive Cybertruck model, hitting the market at $79,900 starting in 2025.
Breaking down the specifications, the rear-wheel-drive Cybertruck boasts a battery range of 250 miles on a single charge and accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 6.5 seconds. On the other hand, the four-wheel-drive model extends the battery range to an impressive 340 miles, with an acceleration speed of 4.1 seconds from 0 to 60 miles per hour. The advanced Cyberbeast model offers an estimated range of 320 miles, reaching a top speed of 130 miles per hour.
Tesla originally unveiled the Cybertruck with its distinctive stainless steel, uncoated exterior in November 2019. While initial production was projected to commence in 2021, Musk handed over several symbolic “Cybertrucks” to customers during a July event this year.
