A user of the iPhone 15 Pro Max recently highlighted the dangers associated with using subpar Apple accessories. In a Reddit post, the user recounted an alarming incident where the charger he had recently purchased for his phone not only melted but also caused burns to his hand.
Upon closely examining the images shared with the post, it was evident that the user had opted for a non-authentic USB-C charger, as reported by MacRumors. The user explained that the phone experienced significant heat during the charging process. Upon removing the charger, he discovered that the metal part of the USB-C port had become stuck inside the device, accompanied by the melting of the plastic component.
Adding to the severity of the situation, the user noted that the device no longer charges when connected to the charging cable.
Criticism from some quarters targeted the iPhone owner for using a budget charger to power a phone that ranks among the most expensive in the market.
The Boyingenius Report emphasized that rectifying this issue would incur a “significant cost,” especially given the user’s confirmation of lacking “AppleCare” coverage.
