ByteDance, the creator of the popular short video platform TikTok, is set to unveil a new platform allowing users to build their own chatbots for various tasks. The platform is slated for a trial release to all users by the end of this month, as reported by the “South China Morning Post.” This strategic move aligns with ByteDance’s vision of integrating generative artificial intelligence tools into its existing suite of services and products. The Chinese company, renowned for TikTok’s rapid success, has also been developing a platform for crafting images through text commands, positioning itself as a competitor to the well-known “Meitu.”
ByteDance stands out as a major player in the social media arena, leveraging artificial intelligence algorithms as the cornerstone of TikTok’s phenomenal success in a short timeframe. ByteDance joins other Chinese companies in challenging the American firm OpenAI by entering the field of providing chatbot creation tools for businesses. Baidu, a prominent Chinese search giant, has aggressively pursued this field since March with its QianFan platform, enabling companies to develop custom software robots and create extensive language models trained on their own datasets.
Furthermore, Alibaba introduced its software platform, Bailian, in October, empowering users to train and develop large language models based on their own data. OpenAI’s services, including the “ChatGPT” platform, have not been available in the Chinese market, creating an opportunity for local Chinese companies to gain widespread adoption and meet the needs of users and businesses with locally developed products and tools. This trend is underscored by the remarkable support from Chinese users, whether individuals or companies, for locally produced goods, exemplified by the success of Huawei’s latest Mate 60 Pro phones in comparison to their American counterpart, the iPhone 15 by Apple.
