On Thursday, Beeper Mini, the instant messaging service, declared a disruption affecting several of its users and pointed the finger at the American company Apple, alleging that it was the cause of the problem.
According to a post on the “Ex” platform, approximately 5% of the total users on Android devices were unable to exchange messages with iPhone users via the iMessage service on Wednesday.
A few days ago, Apple had announced its measures to close the technical pathway used by Beeper Mini to enable Android users to communicate with iPhone users through the iMessage app. Nevertheless, Beeper responded with an update that successfully restored the service.
The company further stated, “It appears that Apple is intentionally disrupting access to messages for around 5% of our users on the iMessage service. Deleting and reinstalling the application resolves the issue.”
In another announcement, the service informed users that it is actively investigating the service disruption across its Beeper Mini and Beeper Cloud applications, urging users to reach out to the technical support team for a prompt solution.
Users took to Reddit to express their grievances about the service outage and the challenges in messaging iPhone users, while some reported that the service was functioning normally.
Eric Migicovsky, the director and founder of Beeper, offered apologies for the current unfavorable experience of its users, emphasizing that he wouldn’t hold it against them if they chose to leave the application and cease its usage.
In a noteworthy shift in policy, Apple, last month, disclosed its readiness to support the new Rich Communication Services (RCS) standard. This move aims to simplify messaging between iPhone and Android users over the Internet without relying on third-party applications. Apple intends to begin implementing the new standard across its various devices by the end of next year to streamline communication between users.
