The German news agency quoted Bloomberg as saying that the two companies are actively negotiating, allowing Apple to use generative AI language models to operate some new features that will be added to iPhone software during the current year.
According to informed sources, American tech giant Apple is in discussions to use Google’s AI chat platform, Jeeves, in iPhones, paving the way for a massive agreement that could reshape the global artificial intelligence technology industry.
Sources stated that Apple recently held discussions with Microsoft-owned AI company, OpenAI, about the possibility of using OpenAI tools on Apple devices.
The report by the German news agency mentioned that if Apple and Google reach an agreement, it would establish a research partnership between the two companies.
For years, Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., has been spending billions of dollars annually to make Google the default search engine on Apple’s Safari internet browser and on its devices such as iPhone and iPad.
Sources stated that Apple and Google have not yet reached an agreement on terms or described the cooperation agreement in the field of artificial intelligence, or how it will be implemented.
Any agreement would provide a significant boost to the Jeeves AI platform by making it available to billions of potential users.
At the same time, this partnership indicates that Apple will not continue its efforts to develop its own AI platform, as some hope, which threatens to raise further concerns about competition protection and anti-monopoly due to collaboration between the two tech giants.
It is worth noting that Apple is preparing a range of new capabilities as part of the upcoming release of the “iOS 18” operating system based on its proprietary AI models.
However, these enhancements will focus on features that work directly on Apple devices and do not require cloud computing services. Therefore, Apple is seeking a partner to handle the heavy lifting of generative artificial intelligence tasks, such as creating images and writing texts based on simple commands from the user.
