A tech expert has revealed the common yet dangerous habit that leads to injury for many iPhone users, despite warnings from both the company and experts advising against it, according to The Sun website.
Scott Boldenman, a tech star, shared a video on the TikTok platform reminding users of Apple’s official advice regarding the danger of charging your phone in bed overnight.
Boldenman stated in the widely circulated clip, “Apple issued a warning about charging your iPhone overnight,” adding, “This caught my attention because I charge my phone overnight, and I thought most people do that too.”
Boldenman explains, “But the concern is actually about where the phone is located during charging. It’s important for the phone to have ventilation, and if you have your phone next to the bed plugged in and covered by blankets, or if it ends up under your pillow without ventilation, it can cause injury.”
But that’s not all – Scott continues in the video – the charging cord itself can also harm you if it runs through the bed, potentially causing injury while sleeping, and you might not even realize it.
Boldenman concludes, “So the bottom line is that you want to make sure your phone is not with you in bed, and this isn’t limited to cheap or knockoff charging devices, they’ve also found that this problem exists even with the cables that come with your original factory phone, so don’t put your phone in bed with you.”
Apple’s official support memo reiterates these warnings. The company has cautioned users against placing their iPhones anywhere on the bed while charging.
The memo adds, “Keep your iPhone, power adapter, and any wireless charger in a well-ventilated area during use or charging.” “Avoid prolonged skin contact with the charging cable and connector when the charging cable is plugged into a power source, as it may cause discomfort or injury.”
