Samsung introduced its latest flagship smartphones this year under the name “Galaxy S24,” equipped with a variety of artificial intelligence (AI) features aimed at enhancing its uniqueness compared to competitors’ Android or iPhone devices, following Google’s approach with the previous generation of Pixel phones, the Pixel 8.
As expected with any new AI-related feature, these phones sparked significant excitement worldwide, earning the title of the most powerful smartphones solely for their ability to integrate AI capabilities with flagship phone features. Many saw this integration as a differentiating factor that tilted their preference towards the “Galaxy S24 Ultra.” However, does this initial excitement translate into a decisive factor in mobile phone selection over hardware components? And does AI reshape the world of mobile phones?
Comparing the popularity of Google’s Pixel phones with Samsung’s phones in their various releases is not straightforward. Samsung devices have enjoyed massive popularity and widespread adoption in all global markets, particularly in the Arab and Asian regions. Therefore, the acceptance of AI technologies cannot be measured solely based on the success of the Pixel 8 phones. Samsung’s phones represent a more accurate benchmark for smartphones than others. Moreover, the Galaxy S24 Ultra did not receive many hardware upgrades, with AI being the most important and distinctive feature.
Thus, the mass appeal of the Galaxy S24 series is the most prominent indicator at present of the public’s acceptance of these phones, clearly indicating the smartphone users’ thirst for AI technologies despite their limitations.
In recent weeks, numerous reports have emerged regarding the sales of Samsung’s new phone series, especially the pre-orders in Korea and India. The Galaxy S24 series managed to break the record set by the Galaxy Note series, one of Samsung’s most popular phones worldwide.
The Galaxy S24 series recorded over 1.21 million units sold in Korea alone, with 60% of these orders directed towards the Galaxy S24 Ultra, within the period from January 19 to 25, according to a report published by the Korean site “Mil Business News.”
While this figure remains lower than the pre-orders for the Galaxy S10 series, which achieved 1.38 million units, the latter’s success was over a longer period. Therefore, it is expected that the Galaxy S24 will surpass this milestone by a significant margin. On another note, the latest series from Samsung managed to sell 173,000 phones daily compared to 125,000 for the Galaxy Note series, the previous record for the most phones sold in a single day.
