Wireless speakers are currently popular due to their versatility, allowing placement anywhere in the room without the hassle of cable extension. However, before making a purchase, it’s crucial to consider several factors, as advised by a report from the German consumer testing agency:
- Connectivity Options: Not all wireless speakers support both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technologies simultaneously. Some only support one standard, so it’s essential to check compatibility based on your needs.
- Multi-Room Functionality: For simultaneous music playback in multiple rooms, known as multi-cast, Wi-Fi technology is essential. Different speakers support various music streaming standards, such as Apple AirPlay, Google Cast, and Spotify Connect. Ensure your chosen speaker supports your preferred streaming service.
- Voice Assistant Integration: If you’re interested in using voice assistants like Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, ensure that the wireless speaker supports the desired assistant.
- Wired Connection Compatibility: If you plan to use the speakers for other purposes or prefer wired connections, check the available ports before purchase. Look for stereo analog ports and HDMI ports for connecting to gaming consoles, TVs, or Blu-ray players.
- Pairing Process: Sometimes, pairing wireless speakers with playback devices can be challenging, as some manufacturers don’t provide clear instructions in the accompanying documentation. Ensure the pairing process is straightforward, either through a smartphone app, a remote control, or buttons on the speakers themselves.
In a recent test conducted by the German agency, the “Nubert X-S 3000 RC” wireless speaker from Nubert received a “very good” rating. Following closely were other models like the “Canton Smart GLE 3S2” and the “KEF LSX.”
The “Elac Debut CONE XDS BP 41” wireless speaker received a good rating and was the only model in the test to offer the option of wired connectivity.
