The American e-commerce giant, Amazon, has announced the development of a new AI-powered shopping assistant called “Rovos” aimed at simplifying product search and purchase on the Amazon.com platform. A trial version of the assistant has been rolled out to select users in the United States, according to the German news agency.
The company stated in a press release that the new digital assistant distinguishes itself from the current assistant, “Alexa,” widely available on smart speakers, by its ability to answer questions and find specific items like Valentine’s Day gifts or dinosaur toys for a 5-year-old.
When integrated into the Amazon Shopping app, Rovos can be accessed through the search bar, where users can type or voice their queries to the shopping assistant.
Amazon asserts that the new assistant will offer assistance in product searches, suggest shopping plans, and answer queries regarding specific product specifications.
Amazon’s CEO, Andy Jassy, remarked that the company is pioneering the delivery of personalized experiences through AI assistants, making software more adaptable to individual preferences over time.
Jassy added that he is confident the smart assistant has been trained on a wide range of product catalogs and customer feedback, and it will revolutionize how customers explore products of interest.
It’s worth noting that the American retail chain, Walmart, has also incorporated AI technology into its proprietary app.
Amazon plans to gradually roll out the new assistant to more users in the United States, although a global release schedule has not been specified.
