Technology enthusiasts and Apple aficionados lined up outside the giant brand’s stores in the United States on Friday to test the “Vision Pro,” a headset that blends augmented and virtual reality and is sold starting at $3499, according to the French news agency.
The agency noted that this is the first major new product Apple has introduced since the smart “Apple Watch” nine years ago.
José Carlos, one of the queueing customers for the headset, said with a broad smile, “I’m excited to experience the headset, and I’ll use it for work and also when traveling.” This young engineer, who works for the Uber platform, added, “The price is steep, but I’m willing to pay the price to be among the first and to test the ideas for applications that intrigue me.”
Apple CEO Tim Cook emphasized on Thursday that “Vision Pro is a revolutionary device… years ahead” of its competitors. However, augmented reality glasses and virtual or mixed reality headsets are not new.
Meta, Apple’s competitor in Silicon Valley (especially known for Facebook and Instagram), has significantly contributed to the emergence of this market with its “Quest” headsets and “Ray-Ban” smart glasses connected to the internet. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg believes that the metaverse – a world where physical and digital environments blend – will be the future of the internet.
However, many companies, experts, and individuals have been eagerly awaiting Apple’s first device in this world, and the company has a good reputation for launching highly sophisticated products that set an example for other companies in the sector.
