Experts anticipate Apple to release its largest update to the iOS system in the company’s history, potentially including new features powered by artificial intelligence for the iPhone.
According to Bloomberg, the company is expected to announce the “iOS 18” update at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, which will integrate the large language models (LLMs) and generative artificial intelligence in the “AI Work” applications.
Some expected software updates include a revamped version of Siri and the Messages app, reportedly supported by advanced artificial intelligence, according to the Daily Mail.
Apple may release the beta version of the “iOS 18” update in July 2024, with a public release scheduled for September 2024.
Apple has not officially confirmed what will be included in the “iOS 18” system yet, but Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reported that the upcoming operating system is “ambitious and compelling.”
Gurman expects “iOS 18” to allow users to create “automatic playlists” using artificial intelligence to generate recommended song lists.
He wrote, “I was told that the new operating system is viewed internally as one of the biggest if not the biggest updates in the company’s history, and with that knowledge, Apple’s developer conference in June should be very exciting.”
The redesigned operating system could serve as Apple’s response to the decline in sales of the iPhone 15, which witnessed a 4% decrease.
Starting with generative artificial intelligence, Apple’s tools are coming “two years after the global spread of GPT and about a year after Amazon announced Alexa Refresh, and about a year and a half after Microsoft and Google first launched new services.”
Gurman explained, “The long story short is that Apple is very late in the game of artificial intelligence, which poses a significant risk for a company that considers itself the biggest innovator in consumer technology.”
There are speculations that Apple is working on the artificial intelligence robot Apple GPT, also known as Ajax, according to individuals familiar with the matter speaking to Gurman.
