Samsung is reportedly working on a “Crash Detection” feature for its modern Galaxy phones, as revealed by information from the phone news website GSMArena.
According to available information, Samsung has equipped the “Galaxy S21 Ultra” and “Z Fold5” phones with the “Car Crash Detect and Up” sensor, as discovered by Android systems researcher Michael Rahman in the devices’ software.
Rahman noted that the mentioned sensor can gather various data from other electronic sensors in the phones, such as the accelerometer and gyroscope. If it detects that the car containing the phone user has been in an accident, it sends an alert to specific linked applications.
It is still unknown whether this feature will work with the recently announced “Galaxy S24” and “Galaxy S24+” phones by Samsung.
Similar features exist in Google’s Pixel phones released in the past three years and some recent iPhone models. Upon detecting an accident, the associated app contacts emergency and rescue services to aid the user.
