The Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing on Internet safety for children concluded on Wednesday without any clear decisions on the horizon. The session, lasting just under four hours, was marked by tension between senators and the CEOs of technology companies.
The hearing included executives from five technology companies, with Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, Linda Yaccarino from X, Shou Zi Chew from TikTok, Evan Spiegel from Snapchat, and Jason Citron from Discord.
One notable aspect of the hearing was the presence of family members of victims in the audience, who expressed their frustration to senators after reprimanding the CEOs, particularly Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta. Zuckerberg addressed the crowd directly, apologizing for the suffering caused by his platform to the families of the victims.
