Microsoft is currently testing the conversion of some key features of its intelligent assistant, Copilot, into a paid service, providing a potential avenue for new profits in the field of artificial intelligence.
The source code for Microsoft Edge Canary browser, which allows the use of experimental features, includes several references to what the company may launch as the Copilot Pro service, according to Android Authority. The Copilot Pro version would be the paid edition of Microsoft’s intelligent assistant, Copilot AI, offering advanced features compared to the free service. Subscribers would have quick and real-time responses to their queries, the ability to design high-quality images, and exclusive access to the latest artificial intelligence models.
Currently, the free version of Copilot, whether on the website or mobile app, allows users to design high-quality images and utilize the latest AI models, such as GPT-4, at a rate of 300 conversations per day, with 30 messages per conversation.
This direction mirrors what OpenAI offers through its ChatGPT platform, introducing a paid version, ChatGPT Plus, providing additional benefits such as access to the latest models like GPT-4, access to the GPTs Store for advanced chatbot models, and enhanced capabilities for faster analysis of commands and queries.
Microsoft’s new tests represent its initial steps towards generating revenue from artificial intelligence for individual users. The company already profits from AI features offered to businesses through services like Microsoft 365 and its team collaboration service, Teams.
