The beauty sector is leveraging technological innovations to make its services more accessible to everyone rather than remaining exclusive to the affluent. Artificial intelligence, for instance, enables perfect at-home nail painting and provides personalized skincare and makeup tips. Nimble, a nail salon described as the world’s first device combining artificial intelligence and robotics, allows women to paint ten nails and dry them in just 25 minutes. This home-use device is available at any time without the need for appointments.
Displayed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, this eight-kilogram white box is equipped with high-definition small cameras that use 3D imaging to determine the shape, size, and curvature of the nails. A small mechanical arm, guided by artificial intelligence algorithms, applies the base, colored polish, and finally, the polish fixative. A blower ensures the drying of each of the three layers.
When this device is released in the market in March, it will offer more than thirty colors in capsule form, sufficient for two complete nail cosmetic procedures.
Artificial intelligence has also infiltrated branches of beauty such as makeup and skincare. The CEO of the cosmetics giant L’Oréal, Nicolas Hieronimus, noted during the CES exhibition in Las Vegas that “beauty is a fundamental need.” He emphasized that technology helps the brand “build a stronger relationship” with its customers. In the realm of beauty, technology provides “comprehensive experiences” and enables people to “express their identities.”
Hieronimus considered that “beauty contributes to boosting self-confidence and self-appreciation.” In front of the audience at the event and online viewers, he presented an explanation of the free “Beauty Genius” application, serving as a “virtual personal advisor” based on artificial intelligence. He described this app as the “first personal beauty advisor,” recommending skincare and makeup products based on the user’s skin and providing advice on makeup techniques. The app answers questions related to issues such as acne and hair loss and allows enthusiasts to virtually experience the mentioned products.
