The Global Wireless Internet Services Companies Network (WiFi Alliance) is set to begin issuing licenses for the new generation of WiFi, WiFi 7, to smart devices in the coming days.
The ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 in Las Vegas has witnessed the release of numerous smart devices supporting the advanced capabilities of the new wireless internet.
The WiFi Alliance stated that WiFi 7, the seventh generation of WiFi, will offer a data transfer speed of 46 gigabits per second, which is 4.8 times faster than WiFi 6. It will also reduce data transfer latency by a factor of 100 compared to the previous generation, along with a 15-fold improvement in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences.
The network expects 233 million devices to connect to the new WiFi generation this year, reaching 2.1 billion devices by 2028.
WiFi 7 comes with several features providing superior connectivity, especially for smart glasses and wearable devices, with communication channels in the 320-megahertz range offering high data transfer rates.
The new generation introduces the Multi-Link Operation (MLO) feature, allowing data transmission and reception across different frequency channels, such as 2.4 gigahertz, 5 gigahertz, and 6 gigahertz, while reducing data transfer latency.
WiFi 7 enables the 4K-QAM feature, allowing the transmission and reception of a massive amount of data to a large number of users on a single wireless internet network, maintaining a high transfer rate. This enables the streaming of 4K and 8K videos without affecting the internet speeds for others, showing a 20% improvement over previous generations using 1024-QAM technology.
The new WiFi 7 generation is expected to make a significant breakthrough in the mobile phone market, coinciding with the technology industry’s trend towards launching augmented, virtual, and mixed reality glasses, alongside the emergence of entirely new devices in the market.
