Using its Internet of Things (IoT) platform, SmartThings, to connect internet-connected Hyundai and Kia vehicles, South Korean electronics behemoth Samsung Electronics has announced a partnership with the prominent South Korean automotive industry conglomerate Hyundai Motor Group. The two businesses reportedly inked a memorandum of understanding last week to work on future lifestyle solutions that combine internet-connected automobiles with smart home gadgets, as reported by a German news agency.
Samsung and Hyundai/Kia have announced their partnership to create cutting-edge smart home technology that integrates the SmartThings platform with internet-connected automobiles from Hyundai and Kia. Included in this category are electric cars, new “Home to Car” and “Car to Home” services, and the incorporation of energy management solutions for residential properties.
Users may manage their smart home gadgets from their cars and vice versa with the help of the “Home to Car” and “Car to Home” services, which link smart home devices with in-car information technology systems. The SmartThings platform allows customers to operate their automobiles from the comfort of their homes. They can start the car, adjust the temperature, open and close windows, and even monitor the battery life.
While on the go, users may also manage electronics like televisions, air conditioners, and chargers for electric vehicles. With SmartThings, they may modify their environment by turning on many devices (even automobiles) with a single command, utilizing predefined routines like “Morning Routine” or “Arriving Home Routine.”
As an example, when the morning alarm goes off on a Samsung smartphone and the user deactivates it, SmartThings will initiate the opening of the window curtains, illumination of the room, and activation of the television. As soon as the user sets off for work, the electric vehicle will automatically change the temperature to a suitable level. Vital information, such the battery charge level and remaining range till recharging, will be shown on the user’s smartphone or home TV.
