The highly anticipated release of Star Wars Outlaws is scheduled for later this year, as confirmed by Ubisoft’s announcement last year. Despite already having some insights into the game, the developer remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering a fresh and compelling adventure for the title, as discussed in a recent interview.
Navid Khavari, the narrative director for Star Wars Outlaws, shared crucial details about the story and gameplay during a recent interview with Kotaku. This discussion unveiled several new facets of the game, providing us with a deeper understanding. Khavari revealed that the game delves into the renowned Hoth battle, a time when the Empire’s control over the galaxy is unyielding. The collaborative efforts with LucasFilms studios played a significant role in shaping the story and characters. The decision was made to place the game’s events between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
According to Navid, the rebels in the story find themselves in a defensive stance. Amidst ongoing civil unrest and the chaos that ensues, a group of outlaws strives to survive and ascend in the underworld, challenging the oppressive rule of the Empire and even seeking to gain influence from the heart of imperial power.
Navid unveiled that Jabba the Hutt will act as the quest giver in Star Wars Outlaws, offering players the chance to become fully aligned with Jabba and serve as trusted members of his forces. This could hint at the inclusion of other familiar characters in the game.
The protagonist, Kay Vess, will have her reputation significantly impacted by the missions undertaken. This reputation, in turn, will shape the jobs available and influence the overall narrative throughout the game. Each player will have a distinctive profile based on their interactions with the game world during their journey. It was noted that Kay Vess can freely pilot The Trailblazer spaceship into space without encountering any loading screens.
Star Wars Outlaws will showcase iconic locations from the series, including Tatooine, Avika, and Kimiji. The game will incorporate a faction system, with each faction offering distinct reputations, tasks, and rewards.
Drawing inspiration from The Division game, the combat in Star Wars Outlaws is tailored to Kay Vess, who lacks Jedi powers and must rely on her allies. Kay possesses significant interaction abilities with all characters, even those from the criminal underworld.
These revelations provide a comprehensive overview of the game’s features. Ubisoft aims to launch Star Wars Outlaws in 2024 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
