The game “The Finals” has indeed emerged as an unexpected success in this year’s gaming landscape, drawing in players since its launch and ultimately amassing millions. However, it’s intriguing to discover that the development team at Embark Studios, known for creating “The Finals” and consisting of former DICE team members responsible for Battlefield, wasn’t initially enthusiastic about venturing into the realm of shooters, deeming the idea uninteresting.
Creative Director Gustav Tilleby disclosed this aspect during an interview with Game Informer. In the early stages of game development, the team explored various concepts, and the notion of creating a shooter wasn’t initially on their radar. Tilleby elaborated, stating, “No one on the team wanted to delve into making another shooter because we had all worked extensively in that genre and were eager to explore something different. However, after numerous suggestions, I pitched the seemingly mundane idea of turning the game into a shooter. Surprisingly, we collectively agreed to give this idea a chance, provided it brought creativity and uniqueness to the table. Thus, the game was born.”
The game was released earlier this month, and within two weeks, it successfully attracted nearly 10 million concurrent players – an impressive feat for a newly launched title. This outcome underscores that the game, despite its initially perceived unexciting concept, has evolved into a thriving success.
