The game Final Fantasy VII Rebirth hasn’t earned the title of the most anticipated game next year by chance. It’s not just because it serves as a direct sequel to the VII Remake, but also because it ventures into the realm of an open-world, a departure from its more linear predecessor.
The events of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will unfold in a vast world beyond Midgar, featuring a sizable map that transforms it into an open-world game, catering precisely to what the gaming community desires and anticipates.
In a recent interview with Gameinformer, the game’s director and producer, Yoshinori Kitase, discussed the upcoming Rebirth game and what players can expect from its world, stating:
“I’ve always believed that the absence of a large map doesn’t exclude RPGs from this genre. While the cost of creating expansive worlds and maps is notably high, it was crucial to listen to the audience and shift our focus more toward our upcoming open-world game, deviating slightly from a linear approach and empowering players with the ability to explore. That’s precisely what VII Rebirth will offer to players.”
A single expansive map has been crafted for the game, devoid of menus and loading screens, which is poised to heighten the enthusiasm of the gaming community for the gameplay experience. Additionally, during the story mode, the director mentioned that players will encounter numerous side quests, compelling them to explore the game world. He stated:
“We want to enable players to craft their adventure, building their journey according to what they find interesting.”
It’s worth noting that the game draws inspiration from The Witcher 3, as previously stated by the developers, further fueling our excitement. The game is set to launch exclusively on PS5 on February 29, 2024.
