The Microsoft Copilot app quietly entered the Play Store without an official announcement from Microsoft, and an iPhone release is anticipated in the near future.
Bringing a feature-rich experience akin to Microsoft’s current “Bing” app, Copilot allows users to perform various tasks through text commands. These include asking questions, obtaining answers, summarizing texts, drafting topics, composing text-based emails, and even creating images.
This application represents another stride for Microsoft in the rebranding journey from “Bing Chat” to “Copilot,” a transition unveiled in mid-November last year.
While the “Bing” search app still retains its chat feature following a recent update, expectations are that this feature will be phased out, leaving behind traditional search functionalities. A novel button for activating the chat search feature is also introduced, seamlessly opening the new “Copilot” app.
Microsoft has formally declared that all its artificial intelligence features will be consolidated under the Microsoft Copilot brand across consumer and business-oriented products.
This strategic move underlines Microsoft’s commitment to distinguish its artificial intelligence capabilities from its search services. The latter remains under the “Bing” banner, while “Copilot” assumes the role of Microsoft’s foray into the competitive artificial intelligence market, rivaling entities such as OpenAI with ChatGPT and Google with “Bert.”
It’s noteworthy that Microsoft established a dedicated website for its chat platform at copilot.microsoft.com, following a similar trajectory as OpenAI did with ChatGPT. Since its launch in 2022, Microsoft has provided a dedicated website, and in early 2023, it introduced a smartphone application bearing the same name.
