Meta has introduced a fresh update to its social platform Threads, enabling users to take charge of the visibility of their posts across other social networks like Instagram and Facebook.
This move follows months of Meta implementing a marketing approach that showcased Threads posts on both Facebook and Instagram, aiming to attract more users to this budding platform and enhance user engagement.
As reported by The Verge, a new tool has surfaced within the account settings of some Threads users. This tool allows users to disable the feature that displays their posts to users on other social platforms, including Facebook and Instagram.
Users can access this tool by going to Settings, selecting Privacy, and choosing the option “Suggesting posts on other apps.” From there, users can deactivate the feature of showcasing their posts on Meta’s two most popular social networks.
Notably, Facebook and Instagram users have started noticing a carousel labeled “For You on Threads,” presenting a curated collection of Threads posts to users on both social platforms. Typically, these posts feature content creators and influencers followed by the user.
This marketing strategy is Meta’s effort to reignite user engagement with Threads, launched in July with a strong start. Despite reaching 100 million users within just five days of its launch, Threads faced a decline in daily usage and user interaction. The marketing move aims to rejuvenate user interest.
Threads competes directly with X (previously Twitter), primarily focusing on short texts, images, and videos. While some speculated that Threads sought to capitalize on X’s performance dip following Elon Musk’s acquisition in November, Musk announced that X boasts “over half a billion monthly active users,” compared to Threads’ 100 million monthly active users, according to Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, during the company’s Q3 earnings conference.
Threads continues to introduce new features regularly to stay competitive. It recently initiated tests for users to log in with multiple accounts, enabling seamless navigation between them. The platform is currently in the final testing phase to roll out its services to users in European countries.
