After four years of dedicated development and exploration, the Humane AI PIN device has finally made its debut, ushering in a new era in human interaction with their digital lives. This groundbreaking gadget eliminates the need for a phone screen, introducing hand gestures as a replacement, where voice commands take center stage, eliminating the need for manual typing.
Revolutionizing user control, this device prioritizes voice commands as the predominant mode of interaction, diverging from the traditional voice-activated norms such as “Ok Google” or “Hey Siri.” Users now simply need to press and hold on the touch area, initiating their requests.
In the absence of a conventional screen, relying on voice for device interaction offers users a distinct experience, fostering a more intimate connection with their surroundings. Simultaneously, it provides an immersive encounter, empowering users to be in complete control and fully aware.
This innovative device, borne out of collaboration between Imran Chaudhri, a former design director at Apple with two decades of experience, and his wife Bethany Bongiorno, a former development director at Apple since 2019, boasts a directional speaker projecting sound towards the wearer’s head, coupled with precision microphones capturing the user’s voice with exceptional clarity.
The result of this collaboration is a device that integrates numerous sensors, advanced capabilities, and features into a form factor smaller than the palm of a hand. It features a 13-megapixel camera with an ultra-wide-angle lens, a depth-sensing sensor, a laser projection platform, motion-tracking sensors, and a touch-sensitive area.
The device’s second method of control, powered by a Qualcomm-designed processor, involves using the hand as a dynamic screen. A laser projector displays an interface on the palm, enabling users to interact with components and buttons by making circular hand motions to select desired options via the contact of the index and thumb.
Visual interaction capabilities are facilitated by the camera sensor and depth-sensing technology, allowing users to display objects and seek information about them through voice commands.
During the unveiling of this innovative device in a concise video, Imran emphasized that it operates on a completely new operating system developed by “Humane” called Cosmos. This software platform aims to break down barriers between smart systems and digital services, eliminating the need for users to engage with specific applications to accomplish tasks.
Unlike traditional smart devices, this device doesn’t rely on applications but focuses on delivering AI experiences developed in collaboration with major companies such as Microsoft, Google, OpenAI, Tidal, and Slack.
For instance, users can capture media content or initiate communication through voice commands or specific touch gestures. Making a call or sending a text message is seamlessly executed by the device in response to the user’s voice commands.
The Humane AI PIN emphasizes a robust voice experience, featuring the Personic Speaker technology that creates a personalized sound bubble around the user, ensuring clear and unintrusive sound for both the user and their surroundings. Additionally, the device supports wireless earbud connectivity, enhancing privacy during activities like music playback or calls.
Artificial intelligence and internet connectivity are pivotal elements in the user experience provided by this intelligent “Humane” device. User experiences are enriched by AI, either through the device’s internal processing power using the advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon processor or by connecting to the company’s servers for data processing, result display, and ensuring users enjoy a smooth and distinctive experience.
