Samsung, the South Korean tech giant, has introduced its inaugural artificial intelligence model known as Samsung Gauss, paying homage to the renowned German mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss (1777 – 1855).
Unveiled during the seventh iteration of the SAIF 2023 AI conference, Samsung highlighted that the name of their new model mirrors the company’s vision to harness available knowledge for the advancement of humanity. The objective is to create artificial intelligence models that can enhance user lives across various contexts.
Samsung clarified that the newly developed model, crafted by their research arm, Samsung Research, is currently in internal use to boost employee productivity. The company plans to broaden its implementation to integrate with a range of applications within its product ecosystem in the future.
The intelligent assistant, “Samsung Gauss,” comprises three components: Samsung Gauss Language, Samsung Gauss Code, and Samsung Gauss Image.
The initial model, “Gauss Language,” offers a multitude of benefits in text processing, streamlining work tasks such as email composition, document summarization, and translation. It holds the potential to significantly enhance user experiences by providing a more intelligent approach to device control.
The language model can be executed either locally on the user’s device or by connecting to company servers through cloud computing.
The “Gauss Code” model is designed to aid developers in the writing and reviewing of code. Samsung utilized it to create an intelligent assistant named Code.i, simplifying code writing through an interactive interface that displays commands directly usable to describe the required code or generate requests for code testing.
Regarding the last model, “Gauss Image,” its name reflects its specialized capabilities in image creation and editing. This includes altering design elements, drawing, and effortlessly incorporating modifications while improving overall image quality.
Samsung reassured users that all three models can operate locally on their devices to safeguard data privacy. The company collaborates with its AI Red Team to identify vulnerabilities in the intelligent models, ensuring the security of user experiences.
Samsung emphasized its commitment to exploring various security aspects in data collection, smart model development, and operation. The ultimate goal is to deliver secure responses and content to users, providing a completely safe and reliable experience. This announcement precedes the anticipated launch of the Galaxy S24 family in January 2024, suggesting that these smartphones will likely be Samsung’s pioneering products prominently featuring advanced artificial intelligence capabilities.
