Apple has released software updates for its range of smart devices, with iPhones and iPads receiving iOS 17.1 and iPadOS 17.1, Macs getting macOS Sonoma 14.1, Apple Watch getting watchOS 10.1, and a specific update for Apple TV labeled tvOS 17.1.
These updates bring a variety of features to enhance the daily interactions of Apple users, addressing some issues and security vulnerabilities, including the iPhone 12 “Radiation” crisis. iOS 17.1 introduces features like data and file transfer between Apple devices using the “AirDrop” feature over the internet and the ability to add songs, playlists, or albums to favorites on Apple Music.
The update also allows synchronization of Screen Time usage across different Apple devices. It provides new tools to control the Standby mode, enabling vertical charging while the screen is off, displaying real-time information such as time, notifications, and date. This feature is applicable to iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
iOS 17.1 disables a feature on iPhone 12 that increased wireless network reception strength when the user wasn’t carrying the phone, responding to threats of a ban from some European countries, particularly France, due to concerns about increased radiation impact on users’ health.
Additionally, the update addresses programming issues, including the “burn-in” problem on iPhone 15 screens, the issue of not displaying the caller’s name during another call, and a resolution for a keyboard malfunction on iPhones.
For older iPhone models, Apple released updates iOS 16.7.2 and iOS 15.8 to provide the same security updates.
Apple Watch receives a new update, introducing features like the ability to exchange user data by touching the watch to another watch or iPhone using the NameDrop feature. The new OS version introduces the DoubleTap feature, allowing users to perform quick actions with a simultaneous tap of their index finger and thumb, such as answering or ending a phone call, stopping the alarm, and controlling music playback.
Apple also addresses some issues with its smartwatches in the new update, fixing problems like a white space appearing in the weather data section and correcting incorrect data synchronization about the user’s location between the watch and iPhone.
macOS 14.1 for desktop and laptop Macs brings the same new features for the Apple Music service, along with features related to monitoring the user’s subscription status in the AppleCare+ warranty and maintenance service for various devices, including Macs, AirPods, and Beats, directly within the system settings tab.
In addition to the macOS 14.1 update, Apple released macOS 13.6.1 and macOS 12.7.1 updates to address the same programming issues and patch security vulnerabilities in older Mac computers.
