Sam Altman, at the age of 38, emerged suddenly into the forefront of the tech world, making a significant impact on artificial intelligence as the co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, the entity behind the renowned ChatGPT program. Altman’s journey began in Missouri, where he received his first computer at the age of eight, mastering programming skills that set the stage for his technological trajectory, according to reports from the British network Sky News.

Going beyond the basics of computer use, Altman delved into programming, becoming proficient in various programming languages. After attending John Burroughs School in St. Louis, he enrolled at Stanford University. However, echoing the paths of tech moguls like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, Altman departed from the university after two years, eventually becoming one of the most influential CEOs in history.

Altman’s initial venture post-university was the creation of the smartphone application “Loopt,” allowing users to selectively share real-time location data. He secured around $30 million in funding, with support from the startup-backing company “Y Combinator.” Altman later became its president in 2014 after selling his app for $44 million in 2012.

Furthermore, Altman established his private investment capital fund, Hydrazine Capital, gaining enough investments to be listed in Forbes’ under-30 entrepreneurs list. In 2015, he co-founded OpenAI with Elon Musk, receiving substantial contributions from Musk and other companies, including Amazon and Microsoft, totaling a billion dollars in capital.

Originally conceived as a non-profit with the mission of developing artificial intelligence while ensuring a positive impact on humanity, OpenAI has evolved into a valued entity estimated at $29 billion. This transformation is attributed to the remarkable success of AI tools like ChatGPT for texts and DALL-E for images.

It’s noteworthy that a group of OpenAI investors, led by Microsoft, is actively advocating for the board to reverse the decision to remove Sam Altman from the CEO position. Talks are ongoing, facilitated by Microsoft, with the potential aim of reinstating Altman following his abrupt resignation on Friday, which he attributed to a disagreement with the board’s decision.

The unexpected removal, as explained by the OpenAI board, was rooted in Altman’s perceived lack of transparency in his communications with the board, impeding the board’s ability to fulfill its responsibilities. Disagreements revolved around critical issues such as AI security, the pace of technology development, and the company’s marketing strategy.
