Following months of anticipation, speculation, and assurances of a revolutionary device from the future, Humane, a company founded by two former Apple employees, has introduced its much-awaited product – the “AI Pin,” aptly dubbed the “Smartphone Killer.”
This compact device, designed to fit into your shirt pocket, is poised to transform the landscape of computing and technology. While the startup has unveiled some details about this innovative gadget, the question lingers – can the “AI Pin” truly replace your smartphone and usher in a new era?
According to the creators, Emran Shazly and Bethany Bonjourno, the “AI Pin” aims to break away from the conventions of traditional smartphones. Their vision is to reconnect users with the tangible world, relying on computing advancements to enhance people’s lives.
The device, a small square weighing only 34.2 grams, boasts a high-strength aluminum construction and a screen made from Corning Gorilla Victus glass. The heart of the “AI Pin” is an advanced eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, clocked at 2.1 GHz, with 32 GB of storage and 4 GB of RAM.
Operating on 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1, the device supports LTE through an eSIM. Its camera features a 13-megapixel wide-angle lens with a 120-degree field of view and a 3D depth sensor for quality photography.
One distinctive capability of the device is its ability to display food items to the camera, requesting nutritional information. Users can set activity and nutrition goals, with the device tracking progress and providing insights into energy consumption.
In the realm of messaging, the “AI Pin” user, when acquiring a T-Mobile number, benefits from Humane’s artificial intelligence to compose messages that emulate their style. For example, users can instruct the device with messages like: “Tell Ahmed from work that I just finished a beautiful walk. The scenery was amazing, and thanks for the great suggestion.”
Humane emphasizes that the “AI Pin” operates without traditional applications, relying solely on artificial intelligence. Integration with OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, and Slack further enhances the device’s capabilities.
A notable feature is the “Catch me up” command, enabling the device to summarize messages and calls. Additionally, “AI DJ” curates a personalized soundtrack to your life, utilizing the built-in speaker and Bluetooth connectivity, contingent on a subscription to the integrated Tidal program.
